Back To School Dinner & Tablescape
Our back to school dinner has been a tradition for quite a few years and I'm finally posting about it here on the blog. One of my favorite parts is putting together this fun tablescape. This year I decided to create a table runner with book pages and then added a collection of thrifted mason jars, some dried yellow flowers, and the grade flags are from Christy Beasley Creative, a new favorite! Love how it came together! And yes, I signed up for Christy's subscription, such a great program, so you will be seeing more of her art here! I can't wait!We spent the evening eating yummy food, talking about goals and the upcoming year, and shared a special quote.Steve also gave each of the kids a father’s blessing, another special part of the evening. Fall Dining Room Sideboard
Loved decorating my dining room sideboard for fall! I had it decorated with all my plants through spring and summer and called it my apothecary sideboard. I loved all the plants but was ready from woods and whites and brass to celebrate the fall season. Moved the plants into my office (can't wait to show you that space!) and started added all the neutrals. Loved keeping the gold bunny from The Nested Fig, went so well with the brass accents. Stacked my brass place settings in a thrifted brass planter. Collected brass napkin rings into a little white dish. Added a muted faux plant to my one and only vintage mini crock. (Can you believe I'm a thrifter and I only have one of these?) Added so many thrifted white dishes, you know those are my favorite! Loved adding everything to the cubbies and stacking together all the things. Finished it off with my brass watering can, brass candles, stacked wooden bowls, and a couple pumpkins. I absolutely love how it came … [Read more...]
Fall Mantel
I'm all about neutral fall decor this season. My idea for this fall styled mantel started with the thought of combining pears and gold frames. I decided to layer the mirrors and because more is more. I continued to layer in the large cutting board that peaks out the one side and a framed piece of art. Loved the layered looked. I folded over a muted green garland i draped over one side and added a few pears. I was able to use seasonal items I already had on hand to put this mantel together. I love when I can put a look together that I love without spending money! Many items I used in this look were thrifted. I thrifted the pears, the rectangle mirror, and the gold frame. Almost all the garlands were handmade. The print is from my favorite print shop, so many good prints! Such a beautiful, cozy fall look that will take our home through the entire season. Added the gold framed art to the shelves with my favorite velcro strips! What do you think? Are you a fan of vintage/thrifted books? … [Read more...]

Hospitality & Embracing Imperfection
Letting go of perfection. This one’s hard and also has a lot to do with vulnerability. I think it takes practice and I think there’s many things we can do to work on letting go of perfection. Inviting others over into our home naturally gives us many opportunities for them to see the real us, how we really live, and our family life. And if you’re like most of us, our lives are full of imperfection. For me there’s this ideal that’s always floating around, something I’m always striving for, and sometimes I reach it, but not often. There’s a moment during the year where I make the perfect meal, or I get caught up on a portion of my life, or I have the perfect morning routine, or I'm the perfect mother, or the perfect wife. But those are just moments. If I thought every moment of ever day should be filled with these perfect moments, it would be feel incredibly unattainable and discouraging. If you spend the evening with someone else, they’re going to see your … [Read more...]
Simplified Hospitality
Lets start by choosing hospitality over a clean home or the perfectly curated meal. Those things are the icing on the cake, but the substance of hospitality is inviting others in and caring from them while they are with you. There is an element of vulnerability that can be linked to embracing hospitality, and the good news is, the more often we practice hospitality, that vulnerability muscle will have a chance to develop. When we invite people into our home, especially if we’re just starting out, we need to keep things as simple as possible. My garage and mudroom are my catch all and where I stack things when guests come over. Straightening up with baskets and having a place to stack all the stuff is a great way to clean up for guests. Especially if you have little ones where there’s constant clutter, make it easy by straightening up the majority of the stuff 5 to 10 minutes before guests arrive. Always remember that your guest care more about connecting with you than … [Read more...]
