“Reading is the sole means by which we slip, involuntarily, often helplessly, into another’s skin, another’s voice, another’s soul.”
Farenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
I had no idea what this book was about until I started reading it. Written in It describes a futuristic world where books are burned, people watch TV on the four walls of their home all day, every controversial thought and idea are discouraged and eventually banned, and they have been lulled into a life of pleasures. It was an easy read, with lots to think about.
Austenland by Shannon Hale
I have been listening to this in the car. Just a cute, fun story. Not a lot of meat to it and I wasn’t in love with the story or the characters but it was fun to listen to driving around in the car.
The Living Christ by Cleon Skousen
Skousen does a wonderful job describing the life of Christ in this book. He gives details of Jewish life at this time that I hadn’t heard before. I love how Skousen makes it easy and interesting to learn about these subjects.
Finding It by Valerie Bertinelli
Valerie talks about how it was to maintain her weight loss in a witty, fun, relatable way. I really enjoyed this read.
Where’d You Go Bernadette by Maria Semple
This was such a fun read. Written as a collections of letters, emails, and documents that describe this season in Bernadette’s life. It took me a bit to get into this book, but then I was hooked.
The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion
I enjoyed this quirky read. Told from the point of view of a single man, with self proclaimed social issues, trying to navigate the dating world, wanting to find himself a wife. It really was a heartwarming love story.
The Wind and the Willows by Kenneth Grahame
We listened to this book and I have to admit that we just weren’t that interested. I don’t think I have ever said that with a classic, but this one was hard for the kids and I to follow. I would love to hear from anyone who enjoyed this tale?? I feel bad that we just didn’t get into this one.
Next up…I’m currently reading Passion and Purity and Lessons in French. I’m wanting to start The Aeneid, and Walking on Water. I’m also hoping to read some fun autumn reads. Planning to start Babe the Gallant Pig with the kids.
