I’m in the mood for a autumn kind of book. Autumn is my absolute favorite time of year and it seems like a practically perfect time to curl up reading a good book as the weather cools and the leaves change. Something mysterious, dark, and full of feeling, something deep, with brooding characters and twisting plots. Cool, crisp air, layered clothes, and stolen moments reading a book.
I thought these titles might be a few good choices to fit the mood of the season.
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
Such a good read, dark and mysterious, with rich characters and a twisting plot. One of my favorites.
Harry Potter Series by J. K. Rowlings
I’m rereading the 5th book with Jakob and am reminded of how good they are.
Inheritance by Louisa May Alcott
I have not read this one but it sounds like a perfect fall read. Alcott’s first novel, written when she was 17. A tale set in a country manor, a secret inheritance, an italian orphan, love and courtesy, and depravity and dishonor.
The Cider House Rules by John Irving
Set in rural Maine, a helpful doctor, an orphaned boy, love, loss, and mistakes. I haven’t read this book either but it looks like an emotional story with interesting characters, perfect for a fall read.
Emily of New Moon by Lucy Maud Montgomery
This one is on my nightstand. I’ve heard it is a lot like Anne of Green Gables, just a bit darker. I’m curious to read it. I was planning to read it to the kids this year but I tried it and it doesn’t it seems like good fit. I’ll read it on my own, I don’t mind, not one bit.
The Secret Keeper by Kate Mortenson
I loved this mystery and I reviewed it, having read it earlier this year, I would definitely read it again.
Watership Down by Richard Adams
I absolutely loved this book. Perfect for fall and as a read aloud to your older kids. I reviewed this one earlier this year and was so surprised by how much I loved it!
Any fall reads that you love? I would love to hear what books you enjoy to read this time of year!
