Step 6 | Travel
Today we come to the end of our Summer Series and are talking about preparing for summer travel. This summer we are planning one road trip and I wanted to work on assembling little travel packs for the kids. This is another thing that doesn’t seem to happen if I try and do it the week before the trip. With the hussle and bussle of packing and errand running, there usually isn’t much time left. This year I wanted to prepare early. I wanted to keep the packs small and contained. I decided that everything that went into these packs must fit in a sealable gallon size bag.
I started with printables. I resized some of them to fit on half a sheet of paper. You can find the free printables I used in the links below.
ABC game found here. License plate printable found here. The US map printable is found here. The car and train printables were found here. The bingo game is found here. I found most of the printables here and the bingo printable here.
I also wanted to have I map of our trip for the kids to follow. I thought it would be fun for them to track our progress. We are just going to see our family in Utah this summer, so this is a trip we have taken often, but I thought it would be fun for the kids to see where we were at along the way.
I used super heavy card stock to make a little clipboard for the printables. Now the kids can write on their papers with ease.
I ran to the dollar store to purchase some items to add to their bags. The items below are for my soon to be 11 year old. An activity book, some silly putty, ear buds, a pencil, fun dip, a mini notebook, and some crayons. I thought the fun dip would be long lasting and decided to be okay with the messiness.
I then placed all the items in ziploc bags. They are all ready to hand out to the kids!
I have listened to a couple podcasts that have inspired me with some great travel tips. You can find them here and here. Also, check out my travel pinterest board for more summer travel pack ideas.
I hope that you have enjoyed this series. It feels amazing to be so prepared for summer. With so much of the prep work out of the way, I’m so looking forward to spending time with my family during these lovely summer days.
