A few weeks ago our dirt arrived. Yes, we are a bit late with this planting thing, but this is the first year that we have done a garden. Between all the rainy days and a very muddy feild, we have been building boxes and filling them with dirt. We have the blisters to show for a few weeks of good old manual labor. I’m proud to report that as of yesterday the dirt is in and the garden is planted. There is still more to do, but all the seeds are in the ground.
I don’t have any pictures of the finished boxes. I will show more soon! But, I do have photos of the kids in the dirt. They had so much fun with this pile of dirt in our yard and did not complain one bit that it sat there for a few weeks.
It was fun to have them help fill the wheelbarrow full of dirt. They helped push and pull, they helped hoe and rake, they loved every minute of it. When it came time to plant, they weren’t as interested as I thought they would be. I really wanted them involved for this part, I wanted them to connect the seed to the plant to the vegetable that are sure to come.
They did help, and after a beautiful sunny day yesterday we were able to finish up. So glad that we were able to get this done this spring.
Here is what it looked like before we started filling them with dirt. I promise I will get better photos soon!
P.S. The fence is going up and I will share photos of that later this week as well.
