We had some visiters to our garden this last week. Yes, this is one of the reasons we are building a fence and why we waited so long to get the garden in. I finally decided we had to get it in even though the fence is not in yet.
I watched as our unwelcome visitor took a bite out of my tomato plant! We tried our best to scare them away. They weren’t too impressed with our weak attempts, but they finally left.
Here is a close up of our garden. Yes, we just finished planting this last week and not a lot is coming out of the ground. Actually, I took these photos earlier this week and yesterday we actually had a lot of green showing, lots of plants starting to come up.
But here we have some cucumbers coming up. They were the first seeds that we planted to show themselves. We were very excited to see them!
Here are our tomatoes. I planted marigolds around the borders.
I planted some herbs in one end and on the other end. I want to plant another basil plant in that empty spot.
Not a lot of photos with the kids. I have to admit, when we go out to the garden it is hard for me to remember my camera. But, here is a blurry photo that shows evidence of them. Trucks and dirt are Karter’s new friends. I promise more kid photos next week.
On a side note, have you ever thought of what you are wearing when you garden. These ladies certainly did. I’m feeling very inspired to wear trousers and loafers out in the garden today.
Doing anything with chickens in cream colored clamdiggers is insane! That was a great link! Entertaining!
I'll share this tip with you: Deer can jump high or they can jump a distance, but they can't do both in the same jump. so your fence either needs to be higher than 6ft or it can be a 5 ft double fence set about three feet apart.
A neighbor of mine did an inexpensive fence with rebar and light netting, I'll try to get some pics for you if you would like.
your beds look lovely – so much space, so tidy! the trucks in the garden is a familiar sight for us as well 🙂 best of the luck with the deer – would a scarecrow work, or are they smarter than that? a patient of mine once told me to hang baggies with water and pennies in them and it would keep deer away, and i wondered if it would work for rabbits (our main pest problem)
I love all the trucks in the garden! I hope you can solve the deer problem.
Love the truck…you know fun has been had by all when there are trucks in the garden. As opposed to deer!
LOVE the link, I now feel like a smuck for the holey sweats and ratty t-shirts I wear to the garden…not to mention the flip-flops! Kim
Your beds look gorgeous and full of potential. Hope you thwart those visitors. I guess the benefit of being in suburbia is not having deer mow down our garden.
haha, loved the link! i might be found in the garden wearing my pajamas, but not in trousers or heels.
we feel your pain as far as the deer go – good luck, be sure to share any brilliant solutions you come up with! 🙂
lol, loved the link…I actually WAS thinking about what I was wearing this weekend. We have so many BIG, FAST black ants, I actually "pegged" my pants(I may have dated myself there) and pulled up my white socks over my black pegged pants. I looked like a dork, but no ant were crawling up my legs 🙂
