As it was going up I thought it was a lot brighter on the shop. It is amazing how different the same paint color can look depending on where you place it. I kept watching it going up throughout the day and was so excited that I could check something else off my remodel to do list. I was trying so hard to like the color.
They finished a little before sunset. We were heading out and as we drove away I decided I REALLY didn’t like the color. It was SOOOOO bright, too bright! I was just sick. We had just paid money to get it done. I just had to get used to it, I just had to like it, there wasn’t another choice. As we pulled back into the driveway, I thought to myself, okay, you are going to like this color. The sun was setting, casting its sunset glow over our home and shop, it blazed an orangy-yellow. It was awful. We walked around the property with the kids and I just started sharing what I was feeling with Steve. As we were talking Jakob came up to me and said, “The shop is orange Mom!” He continued, “Yeah, its orange, like my school bus.” He was right, I had painted my house/shop school bus orange.

So, we decided to have it painted again. I felt REALLY guilty for spending more money on this. We have been trying to be careful with what we have spent throughout this project, and to do such an expensive part twice was difficult to swallow. BUT, we did it and I’m glad I did. We have saved a lot throughout this remodel by calling around, getting numerous bids, doing some of the work ourselves, etc. I comfort myself by reminders of all the ways that we had saved.
So here is the back of the completed shop. I never did get pictures of the school bus orange shop, you will just have to use your imagination. We still need to put some trim on the front and then I will snap some pictures. I learned my lesson. We had it repainted two days later. I spent the day before buying paint samples. I took two trips to Lowes and painted up the side of the shop. I stared at these samples for a long time, trying to visualize. I’m very happy with the results. It is amazing how much softer this yellow is when you put the samples side by side but how bright it is when it is on our house. It is bolder and brighter then most of the other homes in our neighborhood but not crazy bold or bright. I have learned my lesson. I told Steve this is my one redo of the remodeling project. I think every remodel deserves one redo, don’t you??
Tell jakob i liked the school bus color. (andrew)
