It Happens To Everyone……Right??

A couple days ago I left the kids (Jakob and Isabelle) upstairs to watch a movie. I came down to do some bookkeeping for the business. Isabelle came down a little later with her hair like this.
I think I was to shocked to be angry, I was justs soooo sad!!! My baby girls beautiful, long, thick, silky hair was all chopped up!! We soon found out that Jakob and Isabelle were behind her new haircut. After the shock of it wore off I was pretty upset. I couldn’t believe my 6 year old had helped do this. He said that Isabelle asked him to cut it, that he was just trying to trim her bangs, and that he did take a little off the side. I tried to call Steve and when he didn’t answer I called my mom. So glad that she answered! She reassured me that everything would be ago, that kids do this, and her hair will grow.

I knew Steve was going to be so upset when he came home and saw what had happened. When he got home he just laughed. When I asked him why he wasn’t so upset he said that everyone does it. I told him I had to take her in and get it taken care of that night. We went in and the lady we got tried to cut it to the shoulders and layer in the shorter pieces. She worked on it for about 40 minutes and tried so hard. I was not happy with the cut, but knew she tried her best. I took Isabelle home with what looked like a bad 80s haircut.

The next day I called a friend whose daughter has a cute little bob. She told me where she goes to get her kid’s haircut. We called and got an appointment. We had a fabulous woman cut Isabelle’s hair. She told me a couple stories that calmed me down a bit (other child haircutting disasters) and reassured me that Isabelle could easily pull of the pixie cut we were going to do. I was very pleased with the results.

After we came home I asked Isabelle if she likes long or short hair better. She said that she likes long hair and short hair. We have talked A LOT about not cutting our own hair ever, ever, ever again!!

So, I guess I was the only one traumatized by the event. No one else seemed to care that much. I’m doing better now. Trying to enjoy the cute pixie cut that I would never have chosen to give her. REALIZING THAT IT IS NOT THAT BIG OF A DEAL. Life is full of things we would not choose. We just have to deal with them the best we can, look at the positives, and move forward. One of the many things I have learned from these sweet little souls that I’m privileged to spend my days with.
